Pinning the tale is painful;
the prick of the tack
is the least of it.

Who wants to be seen
spinning in place, stumbling
about, feeling the way?

If we told the party that,
sighted, we could push
the pin in just as deeply

would they agree?

It's a little hard to explain. But I'll give it a try. There's usually, more or less, a kind of "tone" to my day, or parts of my day. I suppose you could call it a "mood" but I'm not sure that's exactly it. It accompanies the events of the day and my myriad mental and emotional responses to those events. There are both patterned, habitual responses, and what I'd call more "free" and "aware" responses.

In terms of writing poetry, and "listening" in order to write, altogether tone and response creates sort of an ambient environment. I listen to it, and words emerge, or maybe just merge, ride in on that tone -- like lyrics, I suppose, to the music of the day. Ideally, the words come out of awareness, rather than patterned, habitual responses.

Hope that's not too confusing...

I love the phrase "woe is a spittle machine" , plus how it somehow rhymes with "between" later on (which only seems to work when it is read out loud).

I also like how you alternated, sometimes rapidly, between organic and inorganic elements.

This is marvelous. What a contrast between feelings and images: stark, yet sensual; disconsolate, yet serene. Thank you for sharing this.
